What is Sexual Assault Therapy?
Psychotherapeutic interventions for adult sexual assault survivors are designed to reduce psychological distress and trauma through counseling. Treatment goals of therapy for survivors of sexual assault include preventing and reducing symptoms of trauma and improving social adjustment and self-esteem. In most modalities of psychotherapeutic treatment, In session, we will work to make sense memories reduce PTSD symptoms, including thoughts, flashbacks, guilt, and fears associated with the victim’s response to the assault. Therapy for sexual assault survivors is to help hone positive skills, such as anger management, assertiveness, and communication.
